Eglė Šimėnaitė is a Lithuanian artist, theatre maker, actor, and performer from Vilnius, working in a wide field of artistic practice internationally.

Eglė’s deeply pronounced interest in the sonic worlds of humans lead her thinking into translation from immaterial and “non-existing” into felt, understood, and apparent. Investigating other abstract textures and materialities, together with her cross-disciplinary approach to creativity lead her to build artistic performances molding sound, light, color, temperature, and other seemingly immaterial materialities into experiences beyond understanding. Her passion for thought, word, composition, and aestheticization comes from musicality and whole-body listening practices, as well as from literature: reading and analysis of plays and scripts. She has a colorful background of acting for classical and contemporary theatre works, directing, assisting directors of theatre and film, photographers, and journalists, as well as (and more and more) for interdisciplinary, alternative theatre projects, movies, and video works. She is a recent graduate with an MA in Directing from DAMU, Prague.

Eglė is active in the theatre and performance field since 2015, acting for the camera since 2018. Her experience in the creative field comes from working on a number of independent interdisciplinary projects and on movie sets. The source of inspiration for this flexible and talented artist is a need for diversity, passion for human senses, and seeking to find the core of the animate and inanimate forms that can be felt, seen, or imagined. Other-worldliness is often an active participant in the realm of her translations and collisions of art forms. Together, Eglė is investigating humanity as a species and the human traits we share – senses, empathy, curiosity, arousal, abilities to care and connect, appear and disappear.
